A: If your son and his girlfriend put your granddaughter up for adoption without your knowledge or consent, you may have legal rights to seek visitation or custody of the child depending on the circumstances of the case. However, the specific laws governing adoption and parental rights can vary depending on the state and the individual case.

Here are some general steps you can take to explore your legal options:

Consult with a licensed attorney: It is important to consult with a licensed attorney who specializes in family law or adoption law. A skilled attorney can review your case, advise you on your legal options, and help you navigate the legal system.

Determine your legal status: Depending on your relationship to the child, you may have different legal rights and options. For example, if you are the child's grandparent, you may have legal standing to seek visitation or custody. If you are not a legal guardian or custodian of the child, you may need to establish your legal status in order to seek visitation or custody.

File a petition for visitation or custody: If you have legal standing to seek visitation or custody, you may need to file a petition with the court to establish your rights. A skilled attorney can help you navigate the legal process and prepare a strong case.

Work with the adoptive parents: In some cases, the adoptive parents may be willing to allow visitation or other contact with the biological family. If this is the case, it may be possible to negotiate an agreement that meets the needs and interests of all parties involved.

Overall, if your son and his girlfriend put your granddaughter up for adoption without your knowledge, it is important to take immediate action to explore your legal options and protect your rights. By working with a skilled attorney and navigating the legal system, you may be able to establish visitation or custody rights and maintain a relationship with your granddaughter.
