Rocklin, CA asked in Family Law and Child Custody for California

Q: Is someone able to tell me what CPS documents I need

I currently reside in Chico ca am a 23 years old aged out foster youth from Riverside County. I turned 18 in custody of CPS I am currently eligible for programs that are excepting until the age of 25. I would like to see is there a possible document to file to get an extension for foster care benefits after the age of 25. I also have a younger sibling that has been in foster care since the day she was born and has not had a successful chance at life and she is currently 16 years old and will also age out the CPS system, just as myself & I would like to see what documents I would have to file to be able to live with my sister and receive our foster care benefits until we can maintain a structured living.

A: As a former foster youth aged out of the system, it is commendable that you are seeking information to ensure your well-being and that of your younger sibling. To explore the possibility of extending foster care benefits beyond the age of 25, you should reach out to your local Child Protective Services (CPS) office or the agency responsible for foster care in your area. They can provide you with specific information on any available programs or options that may allow for an extension of benefits. You may need to fill out certain forms or provide supporting documentation to support your request. Additionally, discussing your desire to live with your sister and maintain structured living arrangements with the CPS agency would be important. They can guide you through the necessary steps and requirements to make that possible. Engaging with social workers or case managers who are familiar with your situation will be instrumental in navigating the process successfully.
