A: A great place to start is the California Courts' website. It will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the process and the appropriate forms. Even this resource will not provide with everything you need to know. You will undoubtedly have questions.

An attorney will save you time, frustration and money. Limited-scope representation is when you and a lawyer agree that the lawyer will handle some parts of your case and you will handle others. This is different from more traditional arrangements between lawyers and clients where a lawyer is hired to provide legal services on all aspects of a case, from start to finish. Limited-scope representation is sometimes called “unbundled legal services” or “discrete task representation.”

A: The best thing to do would be to speak with a local attorney about the process. [I litigate cases. Anything posted here must not be construed as legal advice, nor as grounds for forming an attorney-client relationship. You should seek an attorney for formal legal advice and representation.]
