Bakersfield, CA asked in Child Custody and Family Law for California

Q: Hello I have child custody mediation in July, I would like to get some advice in regards to how my case is looking?

For so many years I have been involved in my daughters life. I have been involved in her education, health, visitations, etc. as what a parent should. She is currently 11 years old, she has been home alone and taking care of her younger sibling plenty of times throughout 2021 to present. I do have evidence. Her mental state is not okay, she has been suicidal and depressed lately. I found out from my own daughter since mom couldnt tell me about it. One of the reason of my daughters depression is due to mom going out most of the time and drinking. daughter feels left out. She is very open with me and my fiance. She has missed alot of school under her care and i have proof from school teachers of that and no communication with mother. We currently have an issue with Aliyah coming over whenever she would like, however mom decides when she can come and when she cant. All I want is best for my daughter and be more involved in her life as it should. I would love to hear your opinion?

A: It seems fine, but It difficult to say how your case is looking is based on only your version of the case. It may seem rude, but we no nothing about you. Your question is better presented than most, but can you support these allegations to sway the mediator or eventually a judge. I don't know.

In order to ensure the best possible outcome, you need to consult with an attorney, at least in a limited role. Far too often, an individual leaves disappointed or even irate because they weren’t properly prepared. A small investment will provide a well prepared statement of the case that you can rely upon to come to an agreement or structure your presentation.

Limited-scope representation is when you and a lawyer agree that the lawyer will handle some parts of your case and you will handle others. This is different from more traditional arrangements between lawyers and clients where a lawyer is hired to provide legal services on all aspects of a case, from start to finish. Limited-scope representation is sometimes called “unbundled legal services” or “discrete task representation.”
