Arlington, TX asked in Employment Law for Texas

Q: I was recently fired in Texas over hearsay. I was a good employee, no disciplinary issues ever. Do I have any recourse?

They did not say anything that was specific. They just said "we heard you said some things and we don't want someone like you working at our company". They did not offer any paperwork or documents to me. It was all verbal. I was a good employee, showed up on time, did my work, did it well. I performed all tasks that were asked of me with a good attitude and in a timely manner. My attendance was perfect. During my time, I never received any counselings, write ups or reprimands. I never had any disciplinary issues. Do I have any recourse in this situation? Should I be worried about unemployment pay? I have not been fired from a job since I was a teenager!

A: Based upon what you have stated, it does not appear that you were fired for an unlawful reason.

If you were fired for a specific act of misconduct connected with your work close in time to your discharge, you may be ineligible for unemployment.
