Q: Is it legal for an insurance company to require the title of a car from the owner before they issue a payment?
The collision shop deemed the car a total loss. However, there was NOTHING mechanically wrong with or damaged to the car.

Until you're able to consult with a local attorney about state-specific laws, in general, insurance companies could request titles if they're paying the owner a salvage value and taking the car. If the owner keeps the car, and doesn't receive a check for salvage, insurance carriers don't usually care about titles. Good luck
