A: In this situation, it's essential to prioritize your children's best interests while considering your job opportunity in Oregon. If you and your ex-partner share joint custody or have a court-ordered custody agreement, any significant changes like relocating may require court approval or modification of the custody arrangement.

First, try to communicate with your ex-partner openly and honestly about your intentions to relocate. It's crucial to maintain a cooperative co-parenting relationship for the benefit of your children.

You should also consult with a family law attorney in California to understand your legal rights and options. They can help you navigate the legal process and advise you on how to proceed. Mediation or negotiation with your ex-partner may be possible to reach an agreement that serves the children's best interests while allowing you to pursue your job opportunity in Oregon.

If your ex-partner insists on certain conditions related to the children's education, consult with your attorney to draft a modified custody agreement that addresses those concerns while ensuring the children's educational needs are met.

Remember that the court's primary focus will be on the well-being of the children. So, working together with your ex-partner and seeking legal guidance will be essential in resolving this situation amicably and in the best interests of your kids.
