A: In California, facing charges related to an incident you were unaware of is a serious matter that demands immediate attention. The fact that the homeowner has provided letters stating your lack of involvement could be beneficial. It's crucial to gather any evidence that supports your claim of not knowing about your friend's activities, including communications or any form of documentation that proves your unawareness.

Given the complexity of your situation, including the charges and the potential consequences on your housing and employment, it's important to seek legal advice as soon as possible. An attorney with experience in criminal law in California will be able to assess the details of your case, the evidence against you, and the homeowner's letters of support. They can provide guidance on how to proceed, potentially including defense strategies that could be used to demonstrate your lack of knowledge and involvement in the activities leading to the explosion.

Additionally, it's worth exploring whether there are any legal protections or services available for victims of the circumstances you've described, especially if there's evidence to support your claim of being unknowingly implicated. Community legal aid organizations or bar associations in California often offer resources or referrals to those who cannot afford private legal counsel. Acting promptly and informing yourself about your legal options is key to navigating this challenging situation.
