Q: What is my recourse when a mechanic returns a truck in worse condition then fails to rectify concern or admit liability?

We brought our truck to a mechanic shop for a very slow transmission leak/seep. No issues with performance we wanted to get it fixed before it was a bigger problem. Shop inspected and determined a torque converter seal was the cause. They performed a 13 labor hour job to replace the seal and charged us a little under $1800. Days later the transmission began to drip from multiple locations at such a rate that we had a 2ft wide puddle in our garage. The shop told me they would pull the transmission apart and see what was happening and make good on their repair. When I dropped off the vehicle they had it for a half a day, did not pull it apart, yet told me the entire transmission now needs replacement due to a cracked bell housing. They could not show me this crack, and said it was on the inside, yet they never pulled it apart again. They had no explanation as to why the leak suddenly got extremely worse. However they felt it was ok to send me a quote to pay them a further $4000 to fix.
