Q: What are some things I can do to increase the importance of hygiene and QC at my local tobacco shop as a member/buyer.
I have a local cigar shop that's produces all in house. Tons of boxes all around of future cigar binders, fillers and wrappers. I've seen mold a hand full of times. Not cigar bloom but clear as day mold on the ends or twisted tips. Many times I'll grab the multi packs off the display that has cigar of concern in the mix and toss them onto the rollers area so customers don't see. I've pressed the issue and it falls on deaf ears. I even had a lab test that produced mold CFUs from the spores off a cigar I took in order to test. Thing is I really enjoy this place and they employ a good amount of people in my area and their cigars are phenomenal. I'm just not really sure what I can do to press this beyond reporting to the health authorities. I don't mind them being fined for it but I don't want to get them shutdown. I live down the street and mold is a common concern here especially with the age of the buildings avg 60-70 years but the hygiene could be improved regardless. Thank you!!
A: It's possible that there could be technical solutions, since you seem to like the place and its owners and don't want them to be hurt - dehumidification, air conditioning, etc. Good luck
