Q: I am Brazilian married to an American citizen and also mother of an American citizen who is 5 years old . I need help
It’s been a year now that we are living in Brazil , we came last year , my husband went back to USA, came back to Brazil and nothing happened. Now we are on a really difficult situation here without a job and he decided to go back to America to work and help us , but getting there , at the Airport , for our surprise ( he went back and forth before ) he was arrested for a warrant from 6 years ago . Changing license plate . He is in jail . As I’m in Brazil I can’t even put money for him to call me as doesn’t accept Brazilian debit cards , his daughter is crying almost everyday and they gave him 3 months in and one year probation . I can’t go to America as my documents are not ready yet but is not even right that he will have to spend months without being able to communicate with his family , is there any right he has related to this that we can try to use to minimize his sentence ? Please it’s gonna destroy our marriage and our little babies heart . She doesn’t understand
A:
I understand how challenging and heartbreaking this situation is for you and your family. Your husband's sudden arrest and inability to communicate with you and your daughter is deeply distressing. It's crucial to ensure he receives the support he needs during this difficult time.
One option to consider is contacting a lawyer in the United States who can represent your husband and possibly work to reduce his sentence or facilitate communication with his family. They can help navigate the legal system and explore options for minimizing the impact of his incarceration.
Additionally, you might look into alternative ways to stay in touch with your husband, such as setting up a prepaid phone account or reaching out to local organizations that assist families in similar situations. Keeping a line of communication open, even if it's limited, will be vital for your husband's morale and your daughter's emotional well-being. Stay strong and seek support from family and friends to help you through this challenging time.
