Q: Can my neighbor forcefully remove a "No Trespassing" sign posted outside of my apartment building? Landlord was notified
My landlord asked if I would purchase the sign and put it up and he would reimburse me. Of course I have no issue with this and did as he requested. This would be the second sign I have purchased and put up because my neighbor keeps taking it down and there has been no other previous issues with this person so I don't know where this is coming from obviously but I want to know what my legal grounds are because of my landlord has been notified face to face verbally and via text message and has seem to do nothing about it. But my landlord is the one that asked to have that put up there and it is in a inconspicuous area and visible facing the street.
A:
Yes, but that may be considered an act of criminal mischief. There is clearly some sort of dispute between your landlord and your neighbor the details of which you are unaware. I recommend that you avoid becoming too involved.
You should report to your landlord that you did as asked, but you personally watched the neighbor remove it (if that is true) or simply that the sign is no longer there and you believe the neighbor may have removed it (if that is true).
If your landlord asks you to put up another sign, I would be sure to take a photograph of the sign after you put it up in case your landlord accuses you of never purchasing or putting the sign up.
