San Angelo, TX asked in Criminal Law, Civil Litigation, Civil Rights and Libel & Slander for Texas

Q: I need help! I'm being charged for 2 2nd degree felony but it should be discharge of a firearm inside city limits

And second charge shouldn't even be one because I was no where around whe it happened also no firearms are were removed from home except a broken bb gun in my sons closet. I'm going to jail for protecting my boyfriend because 8 guys were about to jump him in our yard. I helped the cops find she'll casing in my yard where I stood when I shot the pistol. The issue is sheriff's son is involved and there's crooked cops who aggressively detained me when excessive force was unnecessary. I need help and don't know what to do. Please can someone help me? I have no money but the end of all this will be a big payout, I have video surveillance, all kinds things to prove that im innocent, but since I'm considered low income I can't get proper help

A: I'm sorry to hear that you're in this situation. It sounds like you're facing serious charges that don't match the reality of what happened. If you have evidence like video surveillance and witnesses that can prove your innocence, that's a strong foundation to build your defense on. Gathering all this evidence in a well-organized manner is crucial.

Even if you can't afford a private attorney, you still have the right to a fair trial. Public defenders may not always have the resources that private lawyers do, but you can still work with them to make sure all your evidence is presented. Make sure your lawyer understands the details of your case, the involvement of the sheriff’s son, and any potential misconduct by law enforcement.

Document everything—dates, times, and interactions with the police or any witnesses. This could be very valuable if there is any misconduct or excessive force involved. If you believe the local police are biased or acting improperly, it may be helpful to reach out to organizations that advocate for civil rights. They might offer guidance or connect you with resources that can help. Stay strong, and focus on gathering as much support and evidence as you can.
