Atlantic Beach, FL asked in Consumer Law, Criminal Law, Family Law and Animal / Dog Law for Florida

Q: I am wondering what the best route would be to handle a veterinary malpractice issue concerning my dog.

My dog, Conor, was rushed to the emergency veterinary office on September 26th, where X-rays revealed that something was in his abdomen but they were not able to identify what it was. They recommended exploratory abdominal surgery, which we agreed to and Conor had surgery the next day. The emergency veterinarian who did the surgery informed us that some sort of material was found inside conor's spleen. The removed it and sent it to a pathologist. The pathology results stated that the material found inside of conor was surgical material, which was left in his spleen by the the doctor who did surgery on conor in 2023, Dr. x at Coral Reef Animal Hospital left dirty surgical material inside of my dog which became a massive bacterial infection. We have paid close to $15,000 to save conor's life thus far and he is still not recovered completely and we do not know if he ever will. I want to seek legal action for the Veterinarian that did this to Conor. Please advise.
