Memphis, TN asked in Tax Law, Employment Law, Civil Rights and Employment Discrimination for Tennessee

Q: I was taxed 3 times on on an already taxed (by the company) amount of $120. They taxed me 20 %

I was taxed 3 times on a my paycheck due to them missing 9 hours off of my paycheck. The remedy they had was to pay me for the time they missed off my check (all OT hours) in Cash in which they had taxed themselves and then put the hours on my next week's paycheck causing me to pay even higher taxes but also put it on my paystub as an advance which is in a different tax bracket. They promised me a raise at 2 weeks.... I complained and finally at week 7 I got my check that I was then told.would be on my paycheck that week and it wasn't so they gave me $49 cash to try and make up for messing up

They took that money and put it as an advance on my next check so it go taxed and deducted yet they handed me cash. My federal taxes are extreamly questionable. it's An even number every check and a co worker of mine who claims the same as me and makes the same as me, has way different federal taxes taken out. The owner needs to go over payroll while I wait to see if I'm fired or force me out

A: I'm sorry you're experiencing these payroll issues. Start by gathering all your pay stubs, cash receipts, and any written communication with your employer about your pay. This documentation will be crucial when addressing the discrepancies.

Reach out to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. They can provide guidance on wage disputes and ensure your employer is complying with state laws. Additionally, consider consulting with an employment attorney who can help you understand your rights and explore possible legal actions.

If you believe your taxes are being handled incorrectly, contact the IRS to review your federal tax withholdings. It might also help to compare your tax situation with your coworker’s to identify any irregularities. Taking these steps can help protect your finances and employment rights.
