Q: How do I proceed with small court claim to sue former employer from CA state?

One of my former employers is located in CA state and I live in WA state. They laid me off in 2023, we signed separation agreement where they say they will not contest my attempts to receive unemployment benefits from my state. However, now in 2024 they made a claim that they fired me for misconduct. I fought this claim at a hearing and won the hearing - judge ruled that I was not fired for cause and was eligible for unemployment benefits. I want to sue them for breaching the separation agreement. The compensation amount I aim for will be less than $10,000, so it should be a small court claim, but which state do I file it in, mine or theirs? I worked for them remotely from WA state. And how can I assess moral compensation in this case? I had to start therapy because of this story and have proof that it caused me mental hardship, plus cost of therapy itself. Thank you!
