Sheridan, AR asked in Business Law, Employment Discrimination and Health Care Law for Arkansas

Q: Conflict of interest and unethical hire of a family member in my department after voicing concerns multiple times?

Our hospital has a policy that in-laws are considered family members and are not to work in the same department unless an exception has been made by leadership and HR. They initially did not make me aware of her being interviewed until they sent out candidate resumes. I immediately voiced my discomfort on the situation and the hospital proceeded to carry out interviews. Myself and several other employees have voices concerns over this conflict of interest and the hospital is still trying to make an exception to go against policy. As it stands currently, I may be forced to resign to avoid this conflict of interest. I have been in my position over a year as a nurse practitioner while my sister in law will be in an administrative role over my clinic. My work is also trying to purposefully schedule phone calls to discuss to avoid any paper trail. I have emailed HR as well as leadership and they are wanting another phone call. This all seems very unethical and I would like to know my option
