Q: I was a backseat passenger wearing a seat belt when the car I was in was involved in a collision with another vehicle.
No citations, no police, no insuance. The driver of the car has no valid DL nor insurance. The owner was in the passenger seat and was not carrying license. And, i dont think the car is presently insured, possibly no title and unknown about registration. This happened this past weekend. What court do i file in and what is the first document(s) e.g., the order of procedure... Is this a civil, criminal, neither or both matter? Other than getting my injury documented, what other critical steps do I need to take to support any case(s) I might have? How does the lack of insurance affect my case? Are there competent attorneys that will help me given the facts as stated above and represent me with no upfront cost?
A: A Washington attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for four weeks. I'm sorry about your accident. The questions you raise are valid ones, and they show good analysis. The last question you pose may be the most practical one, in terms of whether there are competent attorneys out there to help you. There are, but whether or not they will handle your case is something you would need to discuss with them. Law firms that handle such cases typically work on contingency (with "no upfront costs," as you put it). Your best starting point could be to start making phone calls to arrange a free initial consult with no obligation. I hope you and others involved in the accident are okay. Good luck
