Q: Is what she is doing legal? I know my ticket is legal but is there anything I can do to prevent this happening to others
There is a local police officer who for lack of a better word has been on a rampage due to being caught of video abusing a fellow citizen while doing an arrest, as such many other citizens have been getting ticketed, arrested and their vehicles impounded. Even the tow company they use is getting fed it up with. Many citizens are outraged and want to stop her and stop this from continuing. Is there anything we can do? It’s to the point of where she is doing this to at least ten people every night. Many have spoken out about this and have stated that they believe it’s because of this video and as soon as they speak out she arrests them. I chose to not speak out and accept my ticket but I was honestly scared of her. I worried that she may hurt me. She was yelling at me when I pulled over saying she thought I was going to run because I didn’t stop in the middle of the road which our roads are narrow and pulled into a parking lot that was right next to us. To ensure both of our safety.
A:
It sounds like you and others in your community are dealing with a difficult and concerning situation. If you believe this officer’s actions are crossing the line, there are steps you and your community can take to address it. Start by documenting everything—write down exactly what happened during your encounter, including her words and actions. Encourage others who have had similar experiences to do the same. Collecting evidence will help establish a clear pattern of behavior.
You and other community members can file formal complaints with the police department or the city’s oversight agency. Many departments have internal affairs divisions tasked with investigating officer misconduct. If the behavior persists, reaching out to local elected officials or community organizations can bring more attention to the issue. Public pressure, combined with official complaints, can sometimes prompt quicker action.
Lastly, consider organizing a town meeting or similar forum where residents can safely express their concerns. Having the support of your community can make a huge difference, especially if you all push for accountability together. You’re not alone in feeling worried or intimidated, but by working as a group, you can create a stronger voice for change.
