Q: I work in Texas.I have suspect my boss is secretly recording on private conversations after she leaves work.
I notice my boss immediately changing her attitude after a private conversation I had with a coworker in which we both were venting about our mutual boss. The coworker has also had to deal with a shift in attitude from the boss, so I do not suspect it is her talking to the boss. I have noticed an immediate shift in the boss reaction with me, as well. I spoke about the lack of orders and supplies and the very next day (after months) the boss randomly shows up with the supplies. The work environment is alot like walking on eggshells with this knowledge but no confession from the boss that she is recording after she leaves work, as the conversations were well after the boss had left.
A:
If you suspect your employer has been recording your conversations with a fellow employee without consent, you should attempt to ascertain if your suspicion is correct. While it is not "employment discrimination," it may nevertheless be illegal. It may even be a crime.
It is also possible that your coworker either purposefully or unintentionally disclosed the content of your conversation to someone else and your boss overheard that conversation or someone else disclosed it to her. Office gossip can travel and private conversations don't always remain private.
Meanwhile, you probably should refrain from venting to your fellow employees negatively about your boss. Among other things, it is unprofessional and could result in you being terminated from your employment.
