Q: Pulled over in Kentucky with expired tags and no insurance; options and penalties?
I was pulled over in Kentucky with expired tags for two years and no insurance. The officer cited me for these violations. I have no prior violations, and although I am getting insurance today, I don't have the funds to renew my tags. What are my options, and what potential penalties am I facing?
A: If the tags are corrected, they will likely be dismissed. If you did not have insurance, that will likely be a $500 fine and court costs, part of which may be suspended by the Court. No insurance is also an enhanceable offense, which means if you get another No Insurnace charge within five years of the first No Insurance offense, it can be used to increase the penalties for the second offense.
