Q: visitor visa to green card question

Dear Attorney,

I am permanent resident of USA and my wife USA citizen. My parents are in India and have visitor visa for USA.

They want to visit USA for first time. I was planning to call them this November. They can stay 6 months here(say until may).

Can I file their extension after that based on tourism reason as they would like to see more places in USA and with summer time in may as weather wise it would be more worthwhile.

Also in August I would become USA citizen since it would be three years as permanent resident after my wedding. So if my parents extension is approved while they are here can I apply for their green card?

I am just worried they come in November this year and we get extension and then file their green card.....would it be a negative point for getting their green card approval? Would it sound illegitimate as they came in November 2014 and never went back and now they have their permanent residence application filed?

Thank you in advance for your response
