Q: Do I have a case? Mis-leading product placement in aisle

I burned my tongue due to ingesting very strong lime that I bought in an indian store. Fact is lime goes with Pan , a common pick-me-up that people make at home and eat with betel leaves, edible lime and betel nuts. I bought this small container of lime from an Indian store. Though it had a "Not for external Use" label on it, it was stocked on an aisle along with the other ingredients that are edible - which suggest the lime can be used. I suspect a good number of consumers must have ended up eating it, simply because it was sold on an aisle along with the other pan material. I haven't yet gone to ER/Urgent care and my tongue is inflammed. I am wondering if it is worth pursing this legally. I want to do this because I have seen indian stores flout rules on the kind of products they sell . Half of their practices would not stand scrutiny in the US. This is such a serious thing - that they are stocking inedible dangerous substance along with products that can mislead people

A: Maybe you didn't read the label? Did you look at least at the ingredient list which generally is on any food product, and is translated if need be for sale in US stores? Generally indian food is packaged often in English to begin with. It isn't mislabeling if the label has information. Placement isn't worse than any chain store with a cleaning product in

the vitamins aisle. Doesn't mean you should ingest it with your multi.

However you do need medical care as a swolen tongue can cause serious other issues if you are predisposed to apnea or other conditions.

Save the container, receipt.
