Bronx, NY asked in Civil Rights, Constitutional Law and Libel & Slander for New York

Q: Bully Lawyer

There is a lawyer who is forcing me to sign an agreement that gives him the right to sue me for defamation if i say anything against him. I see this as a threat and an attempt to violate my 1st amendment rights. What do you think?

A: You don't have to sign such an agreement. The best first step is an Initial Consultation with an Attorney. You can read more about me on my law practice website. A: I agree that you should consult an attorney. Without knowing why the attorney is forcing you to sign this or what your relationship is there is no easy answer for you. You do have 1st amendment rights, but at the same time if you speak anything untrue to damage the attorney's reputation, you are not protected.
