Tustin, CA asked in Civil Rights and Education Law for California

Q: Am I allowed to walk out of class for this?

I am a student in high school in California. My school is going to arrange groups for each subject and place students into the groups according to whether their lowest grade is in that group. They are doing this in all homeroom classes. I have a problem with this because it's counterproductive and embarrassing. A bunch of people who having no idea what they're doing cannot help each other. And this makes students feel dumb and it's embarrassing for some students to have their friends or teacher know that they're getting a bad grade. If I were to walk out of my homeroom class to have a discussion with the principal about it, would I be justified in doing so?

A: I hear no basis to be truant or leave class. I don't hear a violation of privacy or other civil rights violations. It doesn't sound like an actionable claim.
