Canyon Country, CA asked in Libel & Slander and Domestic Violence for California

Q: Can someone sue for slander if you testify to actions that are not "hear-say" testimony?

I have witnessed mental and emotional abuse against a female neighbor. Her boyfriend is a Paralegal. I have confirmed her reports of abuse to the Police.(not hear-say testimony, only what I have seen & heard). He is threatening to sue me for libel. He has banned me from his home and tells me he will get a restraining order against me.

Can he do this? She is trying to find another place to live as she only has a part-time job. The police won't interfere as they say it is not domestic violence. When he threatens her she comes to me for advice. I look up current laws on the computer and print them & then explain to her what the law says he can do & what he can't do. He tells her that I am giving her bad advice and she will get arrested if she listens to me.
