Q: Is it legal for a lawyer to tape lawsuit papers to main door in apartment building without being enclosed in an envelope
I live in an apartment building and a lawyer taped lawsuit papers to the glass door downstairs not my personal door. It wasn't in an envelope so everyone in the building was able to see my business and information of the lawsuit. Is this legal? Is this slander? What if this ruins my reputation?
A: Legal filings are public documents. If the documents posted contained sealed information, that would be different. More details are necessary to provide a professional analysis of your issue. The best first step is an Initial Consultation with an Attorney. You can read more about me, my credentials, awards, honors, testimonials, and media appearances/ publications on my law practice website, www.AEesq.com. I practice law in CA, NY, MA, and DC in the following areas of law: Business & Contracts, Criminal Defense, Divorce & Child Custody, and Education Law. A: Not sure service by posting is appropriate but you don't want to ignore it. If you haven't already, give a copy to your insurance you had at that time immediately--they will get you a lawyer. If you didn't have insurance you want to at least get a conusltation with a lawyer who has defended crashes to understand what you file if you were served by "posting," or if that' OK what you put in an "answer" and how it looks.
