Q: I lost home money in stocks, my wife demands I give her half of the money and she keep it by herself. We not divorcing.
I made some bad investment choices and as a result, lost a some amount of our CA community property. My wife is upset and wants to split all the cash that we have and keep it away from me with herself, probably in safe deposit box, but definitely not in the bank. I am concerned that when she take this money now, if in the future she files for divorce, she will claim on half of the assets in addition to what she is taking now. Can we write a "Early Distribution of Community Property Agreement" type of document, so whatever she takes will be deducted from her share of community property in the future upon dissolution of marriage. Or how can I protect myself?
