Weatherford, TX asked in Family Law, Domestic Violence and Juvenile Law for Texas

Q: My mother has been physically and psychologically abusing me for my whole life. I believe there is something wrong

With her brain chemistry that makes her so irrational. In disagreements she has hit me in the face and tackled me to the ground yelling in my face. Everything has always had to be done her way or violence would ensue. I am 20 now but I still live at home because she has essentially blackmailed me. Everyday she picks fights out of no where. I know the simple answer would be for me to leave but I would have absolutely nothing. Just how she’s kept it. What would need to be done to take action against her now that I am no longer a minor?

A: You could report an assault to law enforcement but be prepared for the very real possibility that she may stop providing for you, and if she is arrested there may be a bond condition that prohibits her from any contact with you. So, if you are totally dependent on her, it may be wise to find out what services are available to the homeless in your area before taking that step. You could start by calling the domestic violence hotline at 800-799-7233.
