Q: Deal went bad no specific evidence I have witnesses he claims he has imaginary witnesses. Not sure if I have case?
I agreed the person can have 9 logs for painting my home. A month later still not finished painting kept having excuses n i noticed when I needed some logs he took 11 extra 20 missing...I had one person on the phone they heard the deal the other person was sitting heard also but no one was watching them that day and counting specifically we were home but they were out in the back.... He admits he will not finish painting and he also claims that is incorrect that I have agreed to 15 logs which is not true he claims he has witnesses must've been imaginary cuz I am the only one that had witnesses 1 heard sitting on deck the other on the phone heard everything because the logs are his too. Its a he say she say there are text nothing specific just him saying he's not coming back meanwhile neighbors fence done and he got paid. Neighbors don't want to get involved maybe coworkers or possibly friends. Scratched my house with logs sloppy unfinished paint job. I'm out $300. Do I have a case?
A:
Like many legal disputes, the situation you describe involves conflicting claims and evidence. In the abstract: yes, you could have a case. But practically speaking, I wouldn't go to court over being out $300. It isn't worth it. Resolve to never do business with that person again, you are once bitten and twice shy. And next time when you make a deal for barter, make sure you document it in writing just in case there are disputes later on.
