A: In the U.S., it might be a violation of the politician's privacy. There is a common law (non-statutory) right to privacy, and publication of private facts may constitute what is called "intrusion upon seclusion." Besides common law, there may be statutory laws that also provide for such protection. The other issue is whether the person's status as a politician affects their rights. Every state's laws are different. If you publish false information, that could lead to a defamation claim by the politician.
