A: If your unemployment is related to COVID-19 you should eventually receive benefits from the day you lost your job. The new unemployment laws are being amended almost daily. Almost everyone now qualifies for some type of unemployment unless they receive paid leave or can work from home and get paid.

Assure your employer that you will repay them if they overpaid you as soon as you are approved for retroactive unemployment which could take a long time. Your employer might be able to help you once the DOL phone lines are no longer overloaded. Bottom line is that everyone needs to try to remain reasonable during an incredibly unreasonable and unexpected crisis although medical experts predicted this was likely years ago but some people determined to tear down our government did not listen and now we have this. Good luck. It will eventually work itself out.
