A: It is not "illegal" to be homeless. However, every incorporated city or town has laws against such things as vagrancy and the other similar laws. And in Riverside County, they have a sheriff who is not sympathetic to the plight of the homeless. Many such laws have been held by the courts to be unconstitutional however, as they are applied to people within the jurisdiction of many cities. If you were to be cited for some violation, make sure you look carefully at what the charge is you are being accused of. If something like this were to occur to you, you can find good civil rights lawyers for the homeless who can help you. The best thing you can do for yourself is to be proactive, by researching good civil rights lawyers before you start having problems with the law. Like the Boy Scouts motto says, be prepared.
