Q: I have a EDD Question regarding unemployment payment after quitting due to the pandemic

Hi, I have a question regarding Unemployement. I was laid off on 07/2019 and received unemployment until January 2020 when I exhausted all the benefits. I found a full time job and worked in March only. I quit on April 1st due to the pandemic reasons where my dad got sick and he isolated himself because he might have had covid he never tested. My dad was the one driving my mom to her appointments but now I had to become My moms caregiver immediately due to her having stage 4 breast cancer and needing some assistance with dr appointments and misc. Then on April I got an EDD extension. My question is, is it ok if I keep the money or will Edd ask for the money back?

A: It is not possible to know if you will be subject to a reimbursement action by the EDD without knowing more. If you truthfully reported your status while receiving benefits, then it is unlikely you will be subject to a reimbursement action. If you did not fully disclose information to the EDD then it is likely you will be subject to such an action if and when the EDD learns the true facts. If you want your question answered such that you can rely on the answer, you are going to have to seek out a specific confidential consultation with an attorney the regularly practices before the EDD.

Good luck to you.
