Q: Can I hang a sign in my storefront window warning prospective tenants about our landlord
I own a children's clothing store and we found out a year into our occupancy of this space that my landlord has a terrible reputation (I've spoken with approx 15 former tenants all with the same type of story) of taking every tenant to court upon termination of the relationship, never returning security deposits, hitting every departing tenant with a sizeable bill (at times in the $30K range) and threatening lawyer fees if the former tenant tries to fight the charges. Our landlord just informed me (with less than a months notice) that she will not be renewing our lease and we have to be out asap. My question is- can I put a sign in my storefront window that says "Interested in this space? Do yourself a favor and do your research on this landlord. (won't mention her name). We hope to save you the same heartache we are feeling now- we wish someone had done the same for us." Or could I get in trouble for doing this?

It sounds like your landlord is litigious taking the high road might be a more practical approach. You might want to talk with a civil litigator prior to putting a sign up like that. And, if you do get hit with a large bill contact a civil litigator.
Less than a month of notice prior to termination might not be permissible, but it will depend on the lease and the type of tenancy you have.
