Sacramento, CA asked in Employment Law for California

Q: I asked my employer to please not speak to me in a demeaning manner...

The manager is younger than me and is in a relationship with another supervisor. They fight everyday.

For over a week she spoke to me in a demeaning manor and would demand contradicting instructions.

When I told her about her conduct she scapegoated to myself being "late" even though my position does not require to be on time for work performance.

I am the only blonde female in my age group to be working there and I am struggling to have children while she has 5 of her own already.

She turned my claim of her being demeaning towards me into me "yelling".

She always assumed I would stop showing up to work even though I showed up to all my shifts and I feel that she was creating my want to quite from her mistreatment. i am tired of employers like this.

A: Unfortunately the law does not require employers to be polite, or to be consistent, or to even be rational. Speaking to employees in a demeaning manner it not against the law unless you can prove it is occurring because of your membership in a protected class of people. I hear you about your frustration but you solution is likely not one based in legal claims. It is finding an employer who values its employees and treats them right. That is a hard thing to find.

Good luck to you.
