Los Angeles, CA asked in Personal Injury and Civil Rights for California

Q: HOW DO I GET A LAWYER TO HELP WITH MY ISSUE??

Years ago I was injured in the custody of the LA county sheriffs department. The injury left me with a brain and spine injury and diagnosed with an uncontrollable movement disorder. Apparently I had 2 years to file the claim, however I was in the sheriffs custody for 3 years. Can I still file a claim?

A: You need to sit down with an attorney who can analyze your situation. Were you in prison? Did you ever file a Government Tort Claim. These are other questions need to be answered in order for someone to see if you have any options still available.

A: I suggest you follow Mr. Greene's advice, and start by calling the California Civil Liberties Union, ask for their prison rights project, ask them for the names of "cooperating attorneys." They will give you the best shot, but realistically the answer would be in most cases no.
