New York, NY asked in Personal Injury, Civil Rights and Libel & Slander for California

Q: What protections do I have against gaslighting and constant harassment?

I'm being constantly harassed, and I was led to believe that I was under a spiritual attack by a family member. Threats have been made against me, I've been taunted 24/7 for almost a year, my mental health is deteriorating, and I'm being kicked out of my room because I'm allegedly violent/dangerous. I haven't had adequate sleep, and these mysterious voices claim that I raped children, raped someone in another country, and stole $800,000. They have threatened to sue me and take me to court.

I've asked nicely to give me peace, but that has not worked. I have no privacy, whether I'm in my bedroom or bathroom. I need some sort of assistance so I don't completely lose my mind.

A: Your post is a bit confusing. It says this question is coming from New York but it is asking about California law. If you are in New York, you need to get advice from a New York attorney.

Further, there is no real explanation of what kind of situation this is. Is this related to your residence? Is this related to the workplace?

The one thing I can definitively say is that if you are hearing mysterious voices such as you have suggested, that can be a danger sign of serious medical conditions and you should get to a professional right away.

Good luck to you.

A: I'll make a few "if" assumptions here. If your family members are the ones harassing you/kicking you out of your room, and If you are not acting violently towards them, in California you may have claims for defamation (if the statements being made about you are false and are damaging your reputation), as well as intentional infliction of emotional distress.
