Andalusia, AL asked in Employment Discrimination and Employment Law for Alabama

Q: What is considered discrimination in a work place?

I have been doing managerial work for 3 years now, without the pay or title. When asked to do any task, my boss always called upon me to carry it out. Now, he has two 25 year olds that are only about 1 year out of school. Recently he has been promoted to top of the line and now he wants the two 25 year olds to be manager and assistant manager. We have never had an assistant manager. The positions were never posted, internally or externally. Some of the other employees would have applied for that position, had they known about it. Now the two new managers are asking me what they need to do and how to do it

A: Are you a member of a union? Do you have an employment contract? If not, the protections are likely going to be limited to discrimination based on age, race, sex, religion or national origin.
