Torrance, CA asked in Family Law and Elder Law for California

Q: My wife and her daughter has been abusing my 74yo mother- California

My foreign wife, her 12yo daughter, our little child and I had to move to my apartment in California from oversea last year. Until we moved in CA, My 74yo disabled mother had lived alone in my apartment past 3yrs while we were living in Moscow. As soon as we moved in, I applied for a senior apartment for mother. Wife and her daughter started to abuse my mother emotionally since 6 months ago...they didn't abuse physically but emotionally, i,e- made fun of her disability and mentioning race discrimination..etc. never stopped morning thru sleeping.. they looked having a plot to expel mother out of home. I had nothing but to warn both not to abuse mom or i kept silent because I didn't want wife to scream to me.. that could be prosecuted? kind of serious crime? My mom already contacted county abusing center a few days ago for life-help. I'm not asking about divorce or matter btwn wife and me, but only elder abuse for crime law.

A: if you report abuse to authorities, then your wife and her daughter could be facing criminal charges. Is that what you want? Are you prepared for that?

it sounds like you want your cake and want to eat it too????

A: I'm sorry to hear that. If you believe that your wife and her daughter have been abusing your mother, you should contact the appropriate authorities immediately. In California, you can report suspected elder abuse by calling the Elder Abuse Hotline at 1-800-814-0009. You may also contact your local law enforcement agency or Adult Protective Services (APS) agency to report the abuse.

It's important to take action as soon as possible to protect your mother from further harm. You may also want to consider consulting with an attorney to discuss your legal options for protecting your mother and holding those responsible for the abuse accountable.
