Bowie, MD asked in Real Estate Law and Landlord - Tenant for Maryland

Q: wrongful detainer was filed, however I asked the judge to dismiss the case as it was the incorrect action as I pay rent.

Plaintiff (P) stated a landlord/tenant was filed previously but was dismissed. On that particular L/T case, I asked for a postponement due to illness. But previous judge dismissed case because (P) lawyer stated a dishonest answer that I paid nothing. (P) lawyer then filed a wrongful detainer action. I told judge this and he stated that i was not there so could not speak on it but i knew of what happened. However this previous case should've been irrelevant to the current W/D action. Judge told me he could take away previous judges dismissal and then rule on either W/D or L/T at his discretion or I agree to something with plaintiff. I feel the judge lied and threatened this. Can a district court judge take away another judges dismissal and reinstate what he wants? This doesn't seem to be law to me? Is this true? The previous dismissed case shouldn't be relevant to a current brand new case. The W/D should've been dismissed due to I pay monthly which I told the judge. I feel bamboozled.

A: It is difficult to decipher your description, but the mechanism for challenging a judge's decision is called an appeal. If you don't understand the judge's decision or how to follow the procedures of court, you might be well served to retain a lawyer for your next case or for the present appeal.
