A: If your lawyer is claiming that they didn't represent you and accuses you of impersonation, you need to take immediate action to clarify the situation. Start by gathering any documentation or evidence you have that shows the lawyer-client relationship, such as emails, signed agreements, or payment receipts. This evidence is crucial in proving that the lawyer did indeed represent you.

Next, consider sending a formal letter to the lawyer outlining the evidence of their representation and requesting an explanation. This letter should be concise and to the point, clearly stating the facts and attaching copies of the evidence you have. It might also be helpful to request that all future communication be in writing to maintain a clear record.

If the lawyer continues to deny the relationship, you may need to contact the California State Bar for assistance. The State Bar can help mediate disputes between clients and lawyers and investigate claims of misconduct. Taking these steps can help ensure that your rights are protected and that the truth about the representation is established.
