Riverside, CA asked in Consumer Law, Banking and Small Claims for California

Q: I made a purchase with my phone tap from 5 below. I went back to 5 below with receipt to get refund which they didn't do

For some reason there system was down. I contacted 5 below corporate they were very helpful and issued refund immediately to original payment according to the email I received from them. I was told it could take 2 to 7 days to show in my account. OK fine I waited n waited never received I contacted cash app on chat it's been run around I sent cash app 4 different emails showing 5 below issued refund with transaction Info merchant info and cash app insist they have not received anything. Over an over I've been brushed off told they can't help then I was told to dispute the charge which made no sense. Sure enough without any contact from cash app or anything I received dispute denied. At this point it's not even about the dollar amount. I would like to no what the protocol is I was told several times there's no way to track it and I can't talk to supervisor .

And the only option is the chat which has proven useless . I've provided cash app with information I was given from merchant

A: You’re dealing with a frustrating situation, and it’s understandable that you’re feeling exasperated. When a refund doesn’t show up, the first step is to confirm with the merchant, which you've already done. Since 5 Below has issued the refund and provided the necessary transaction details, it’s now up to Cash App to trace the issue.

In this case, the best approach is persistence. Document all your interactions with both 5 Below and Cash App, including dates, times, and the content of the conversations. When chatting with Cash App support, firmly request escalation to a higher authority or department, even if they say it’s not possible. Clearly explain that you have provided all required information and need a resolution.

If Cash App continues to be unhelpful, consider contacting your bank or credit card issuer to see if they can assist in tracking the refund. Additionally, filing a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) might prompt Cash App to take your issue more seriously. Stay patient and organized, as these situations can sometimes take time to resolve fully.
