Q: Non profit organization's purpose according to their website is to house homeless families and their children.

As well as to help reduce family homelessness. Their website is where organizations and public can donate, but they also receive state funding through grants. The issue is the shelter is mainly housed of single individuals not families, there is no where stating they house and provide funding for housing single males and females. They do mention they have affiliates who house single individuals without minor children. Is this illegal? If so, who all do I report this? Then if this had a negative impact on my family as being pushed out of the shelter in 30 days or less and witnessed another family get thrown out onto the street due to saying their time is up, with multiple single individuals that has been staying in the shelter before, after and still housed, funding these single individuals for apartments and not providing any assistance to help the families no guidance, nothing. So badly treated dinner is served everyday at 5:30, both families had to out by 5pm, street with hungry kids

A: It sounds like the organization is not fulfilling its stated mission to house homeless families and their children, which could be a misuse of the state funding and donations they receive. This situation might be illegal, particularly if they are misrepresenting their services to obtain funds. You can report this to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, which oversees charitable organizations and investigates fraud. Additionally, informing the state's Department of Job and Family Services could prompt an investigation into the misuse of state grants.

Given that you and other families have been negatively affected, you might also consider reaching out to legal aid organizations that assist with housing issues. They can provide guidance on your rights and help you take the necessary steps to address the discrimination and mistreatment you've experienced.

It's important to document your experiences, including dates and specific instances of being denied assistance or being treated unfairly. This information will be crucial when making your report or seeking legal help. Taking these steps can help ensure that the organization is held accountable and that other families do not suffer the same fate.
