Bellevue, WA asked in Consumer Law, Civil Litigation, Lemon Law and Small Claims for Washington

Q: In WA not 30 miles after significant engine work, my car's engine caught fire destroying the vehicle.

We had $5,000 worth of work done on our car engine. The same days as picking it up, after driving not even thirty miles, the engine caught fire and totaled the car. We're working through the process with our insurance company and have informed the dealer who did the work of what happened. Our claims adjuster did say that they don't cover mechanical failures which would be a matter between us and the dealer. Of course, the dealer who did the work is saying that, yes significant work was done but no one really knows what the cause of the fire was but, if it is indeed true that their work is responsible they'll "do the right thing." I'm in the process of finding a civil litigation attorney but I'm curious about what sort of questions I should be asking and what I should expect in the process.
