Q: How do I handle receiving a Warrant in Debt for damages from an previous apartment complex I lived with no contact?
I lived in an apartment for 8 years with another person and we moved out 12/30/2022. I gave them my forwarding address, phone number and email address to contact me. I received a Warrant in Debit at the forwarding address I gave them on 11/13/2024 that stated that I am indebted $908 + 6% interest until it is paid. I have to pay $62 and $227 in attorney fees as well. They attached a document on the property management letterhead that has my name and the other resident's name with list of damages and the cost off each item and adate of 1/16/2023 when the damage assessment was done. It refers to looking at pictures but they not were provided. From 12/30/2022 until receiving the Warrant in Debit on 11/13/2024 I have never received documents saying I owe damages fees and the process of how I could pay them even though I gave them my forwarding address and contact information. Is the apartment complex allow to file a Warrant in Debit without contacting me first? Do I need a lawyer for court?
