Peoria, AZ asked in Contracts and Constitutional Law for Arizona

Q: Am I entitled to a full refund of my down payment if I don't want to finish the purchase and I did not sign a contract?

I was negotiating a deal for a truck. The dealer said another person was looking at it. The dealer suggested that I put $1,000 down to hold the car. I did, but a few days later a few personal things happened. With that, I decided buying a truck is not the right decision at the moment, and that I should wait instead. I called the dealer and informed them of my situation. The dealer got upset and said they did not want to lose the deal and the $1,000 is non-refundable. I asked how is this possible if I did not sign anything. He said he will speak with his boss over the weekend and get back to me on Monday. I researched it myself and found that if I did not sign anything, I am entitled to a full refund. I'm asking the question here because I want to be absolutely sure about the situation.

Thank you.
