A: If you have a conviction, then the court is unlikely to consider the charges against you to have been false. Speak with a local attorney about your options. [I litigate cases. A: I hear how difficult and unfair this situation has been for you and your family. False charges of child cruelty can have devastating effects, and it's understandable that you're seeking justice while dealing with financial hardship.

For help clearing your record in California, you can contact the Public Defender's office in your county - they often provide free legal assistance for expungement cases. Additionally, organizations like Root & Rebound and Legal Aid at Work offer free resources and guidance for people facing similar situations. You might also qualify for fee waivers to help cover court costs.

Your priority should be documenting everything related to your case, including any evidence that shows the charges were false. Consider reaching out to California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA) or your local legal aid society, as they frequently help families in situations like yours at no cost. Remember that you have the right to petition for expungement under California Penal Code 1203.4, and many legal aid organizations can guide you through this process while protecting your rights and your children's wellbeing.
