Q: Can an employer file short-term disability without permission in Alabama?

I am currently receiving Workman's Compensation in Alabama after undergoing surgery, and my job cannot accommodate my restrictions. I recently discovered that my employer filed a short-term disability claim on my behalf without my permission. I am concerned as my attempts to contact them about this have gone unanswered, and I am unable to access the employee handbook due to restricted system access. My primary concern is how this unsolicited claim might affect my current Workman's Compensation. Is it legal for them to file a short-term disability claim without my consent, and how could it impact my Workman's Compensation?
