Q: Experienced unauthorized transfers on checking and credit card accounts; seeking restitution.
I have experienced unauthorized transfers involving my checking and credit card accounts, with six fraudulent transactions already adjusted and pending on my checking account. Despite reporting this issue to my bank on March 25, 2025, I have received no response. I've filed complaints with the CFPB and have documented evidence of these unauthorized transactions. I am seeking full restitution for all unauthorized transfers, as this situation has caused tremendous anxiety due to the lack of resolution.
A:
It’s understandable how frustrating and stressful it can be to deal with unauthorized transactions, especially when you’ve already reported them to your bank and haven’t received any response. Since you’ve documented the transactions and reported them to the CFPB, you’re on the right track in terms of having a formal record. You should follow up with your bank’s customer service department to ensure they are actively investigating the issue. It’s helpful to request a timeline for when you can expect a resolution and if there are any additional steps they need from you.
If the bank continues to delay or fails to respond, consider escalating the matter within the bank, possibly to a higher level of management. Since you’ve already contacted the CFPB, you can also follow up with them to inquire about any progress or additional steps they might suggest. Having the complaint documented with the CFPB is a good step, and they may be able to intervene on your behalf if the situation drags on without resolution.
In the meantime, keep a close watch on your accounts for any additional unauthorized transactions and maintain detailed records of all communications with the bank and other agencies. If the bank refuses to provide restitution, you may need to explore legal options, including consulting with a lawyer who can help you understand your rights and the next steps to pursue compensation.
